My front windshield gasket is coming apart in small chunks and I checked with Bavarian Autosports catalog for replacement gasket. The tech said he thinks on my model you need to pull the whole windshield out to replace. Any ideas if this is true?

Yes, That is true - he must cut open the current gasket, through the seal, to take the windshield off - clean out the edges and glue-on the new windshield w/ the gasket in place. Windshield is basically hold in place by glue, and the plastic gasket only provides support and covers the gap between the frame and the glass.

I would go with some one who has done this before and has experience with BMWs. It should not take more than one hour to do this, and takes 24 hours for the glue to dry out before removing the tapes.

No, it can be replaced in 15 min by hand. I had mine done and I watch it being done. Very easy. Just start at one end, wedge the end out of the groove, slowly pull it out all the way around. Use tool to clean out remaining chunks. Take new gasket and spray with soapy water for lubricant as you start on one end and work in back into the groove just as you removed it.

Part cost like $25??? and labor was like $30. No leaks no probs.

I'm assuming you're talking about the rubber piece between the car and the windsheild that borders all the way around the top and sides and exposed to the elements....unless a 99 is that much different from my 98.
