Alarm activate chirp

Sometimes, when I lock or unlock my 2002 E39 the alarm activation/deactivation provides an audible. Most times, though, it doesn't.

How do I get it to audible all the time? I don't think this is a take-to-dealer-to-reprogram issue since it seems to come and go at will. It is convenient to have the audible so that I don't have to look back to see that the lights flashed and the alarm armed.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

On my E36, you press both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote and hold for a few seconds. This toggles the audible chirp off and on. As bad a owner's manuals are, the one for the security system on my '98 is pretty good. When I bought the car used, only one remote worked, but I was able to pretty easily program the other one by following the book. Good luck.
