hot bimmer!!

Hi,
I own 2001 530i and recently I have noticed that my temperature gage is going awfully close to red zone. It even went over to red zone so I sopped the car and shut off the engine to let it cool off.
Checked the antifreeze level, it is OK. Now when I drive it seems to be very sporadic, when it gets too close to red I just turn on the heat and it goes back to the middle of the gage like it should, and it stays there as long and heat is on.
What do you guys think that might be?

First off make sure the system has been purged of air. There is a bleeder screw in the system for this. Every BMW I have owned has run dead center if not a little to the cold side. IF your getting to the red you need to stop driving her and get the problem resolved. If not bleeding the system, check the fan clutch. thermostat, and water pump.

my fan clutch was replaced 4 months ago, the water pump works because heat works.
I just have to check for air in the system and thermostat. Hope this will fix the problem

Not sure if your 5er has an Aux Fan relay, but make sure that your Aux Fan is working.

What is too cool? My 94 530i runs just off of cold even though I have good heat.

should be right in the middle about 10-15 after cold morning start (depending on the type of drving - highway will warm up fater)
