Just curious, as i'm looking to decide between bmw, lexus, audi, etc. I do not want an SUV, and want a sporty car, but i need the AWD due to the midwestern driving conditions.

thanks!

Welcome!

Well, certainly we may be a bit biased here. I drove an Audi A6 a few weeks ago. I thought it was a really nice car - smooth ride, plenty of power, interior is nice for the most part. There were a few annoying things in the controls layout that bugged me.

My biggest complaint about it was the noticeable oversteer, it handled reasonably well, but the front really pulled into corners. This is more common with AWD, but I was surprised at how much the A6 oversteered. I haven't driven a 5 series AWD so I don't know how it handles by comparison. The other issue with Audi is resale value, not good.

Sedan? Coupe?

If it has to be AWD, under 60k, and a sedan, I would look at the E46 BMW 330xi, E90 BMW 330xi, E60 BMW 530xi, current Audi A6/A8, previous generation Audi S8, as well as the B6 platform Audi S4. I would also look at the lower priced Subaru Legacy 2.5GT and the MazdaSpeed 6. If you want a boy-racer sedan, the EVO or the Sti would be your choice.

If it has to be AWD, under 60k, and a coupe, I would look at a 2001 911 Turbo and 2002-2003 911 C4S.

Why does it have to be AWD? I drive RWD in the Wisconsin winters without a problem. Good snows are all you need.

If you will consider RWD, I would look at the E39 BMW M5, E46 BMW M3, new M Coupe, E60 545i/550i, and the regular 996 and 997 911s.
