Odometer/speedometer question!

Hey, I have an old 1981 528i with the 5-speed manual tranny without cruise control.

The speedometer cable was broken when i recently purchased the car, and i replaced the cable. NOW, the speedometer works, but the odometer does NOT work!?

Does this make sense? I would have thought the odometer would be driven mechanically off the speedometer.. . Does anyone known anything about this?

You forgot ATE brake rotors, and Frozen Rotors.

When the cable broke it probably broke the internals in the instrument cluster that the ODO feeds off of.
