Soft rubbing noises in my steering

My 1997 528i does a strange noise when I turn my wheels all the way to either sides. This happens when I started in the morning or when it has been park for a while but after I drive some miles it seems ok. Can anybody tell me what is wrong with it? Any comments will be really appreciate it. Thanks

Yes it's your power steering pump saying "don't keep doing that, ouch!"

Of course - if it does it before you get to lock, or it sounds especially bad (like exceptionally loud) then it might be a bad pump, or you might be low on fluid.

But - all cars I've driven make that kind of noise at full lock.

Yeah, it's not advisable to hold the steering at full lock for more than a sec or two.

I'll try to avoid to hold the steering at full lock for more than 2 secs. Can I still drive like this or is it going to do more damage. What do you guys think? Thanks a lot!!

i doubt you'll ever do damage to it, just as long as you arent sitting at full lock forever, and it doesnt make weird noises on a normal basis.
