sounds like something's loose

okay, another one for y'all...

again, in my 2000 528i 5 speed...

when I shift at low speed, it sounds like something is loose - sort of like a soft clunking noise or something under the car - doesn't seem to happen when I rev higher and shift, only when I'm cruising slowly, like in traffic. Seems like it happens when I put in the clutch - push in the clutch and "clunk"...

So when i took it to the dealer, they said that it was a noise from the transmission and that it was normal. This was a few months ago. I'm still not comfortable with it, though. Anyone else experience anything like this?

That clunk is a normal noise from the transmission (has to do with the flywheel, I believe). It sounds uncomfortable, but it is very normal.

Does having the A/C on make any difference in this noise?

Just wondering, because my '98 528i Auto seems to make an odd noise for the first few seconds of acceleration if the A/C is on.. not otherwise.

My wife's '94 325ic 5-speed doesn't make any odd noises when shifting...
